Prior to joining the Grizzly staff in February, Maurice spent the last six seasons coaching in the KJCCC with a four year stint at Highland and was at Hutchinson the last two seasons. Maurice helped guide the Hutchinson Blue Dragons to their first NJCAA National Title in school history in the spring of 2021 and won the Region VI Playoffs in the fall of 2021 with the Blue Dragons. In 2018, Maurice was named the NJCAA Defensive Backs Coach of the Year and in the spring of 2021 he coached the No. 1 safety in the NJCAA that went to Auburn University. He followed that up coaching the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year in the fall of 2021 in Ro Torrence that also signed with Auburn.

During his coaching tenure, coach Gray has sent 30 defensive backs to NCAA Division I Universities and has had three former players play in the National Football League. He has coached a total of 10 NJCAA All-American defensive backs while winning five KJCCC crowns and two NJCAA titles as a coach and player.

The Warner Robins, Georgia native was has been a very successful coach thus far in his career and that doesn't come by accident as Maurice was a strong football player himself back in his playing days. Maurice earned first team All-KJCCC honors and NJCAA All-American honors while helping Butler to 12-0 and 11-1 records in 2006 and 2007. In two seasons with Butler, he finished with 94 tackles and nine interceptions and helped the Grizzles win a National Championship. After playing at Butler, Gray transferred to Oklahoma State where he played in 22 games during the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
