Garden City pulls away despite big night from Victoria

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The Butler men could not win a second straight road game, falling to Garden City by an 80-73 score on Saturday at the Perryman Athletic Complex.

Butler looked to carry over the momentum of a road win at Dodge City on Wednesday, but instead, the Grizzlies fell behind early, 10-1. Butler would go on a 26-11 run to eventually lead 27-21, which would be their biggest lead of the game before Garden City closed the half strong to lead 32-31 at the break.

The Grizzlies would tie the game, 39-39, with 16 minutes to play following back-topback baskets by Andrew Victoria. Butler could not contain Chauncey Williams, who would hit seven 3-pointers in the game on his way to scoring 29 points. His shooting allowed Garden City to build a 65-56 lead and then hold on for the win.

Andrew Victoria led Butler with 20 points and 19 rebounds in the game. Sean Osler scored 16 points while Justin Simmons and Zac Bargen had 12 points apiece. Butler drops to 8-15 overall, 2-7 in the Jayhawk West. Up next is a home game against archrival Hutchinson in a rematch of a game Butler won 62-61 on the road in January.
