The Butler men's basketball team got the season started with a bang in the Power Plant Thursday night against K-State Salina.

Early in the game the Grizzlies couldn't shake the feisty K-State Salina team. Through the first 10 minutes of the game the Wildcats were able to keep the game within a few possessions and were trailing 23-16. Through the remainder of the half, Butler outscored K-State Salina 27-18 to take a 50-34 lead into the locker room. Butler was able hold K-State Salina to 34.6 percent shooting, while the Grizzlies shot 48.7 percent from the field.

In the second half Butler continued to play tough defense and allowed the Wildcats to put up 26 points. The Grizzlies however improved their offensive output for the first half by adding 68 to their total. Ja'ln Williams led Butler with five steals on the night, while Shomari Triggs had three steals of his own.

Osler's 18 led the Grizzlies but eight other players also scored in double figures. Eric Watson had 13, Shomari Triggs and LaMont Pruitt each had 12, Larry Fitzgerald and Isaiah Bradshaw each had 11, and Bakari Triggs and Trent Richardson each added 10.

Butler's next game will be on Saturday night as they host Cowley College who was picked second in the Jayhawk East.
