Grizzlies suffer first loss of the season

On Saturday night in Coffeyville for the second night of the Community State Bank Classic the Butler men's basketball team had the task of trying to defeat the undefeated home team and 19th ranked Coffeyville Community College. The Grizzlies nearly completed that task but were defeated 87-85 in the final seconds.

For the first several minutes of the game the Grizzlies held the lead but a late flurry put the Red Ravens up by five at the break.

The second half is when the game got physical. In the game a total six technical fouls were assessed. Three were handed out to each team and the Grizzlies shot 24 free –throws in the second half while the Red Raven's had 18 chances of their own.

For a majority of the half the Grizzlies trailed and didn't make a push for the lead until late in the session. When that push came, Butler was able to grab a one point lead with 24 seconds remaining in the game. After the Grizzly basket, the Red Ravens took time off the clock before running a play and making a pass out to guard Cameron Craig who hit a guarded three pointer from the top of the key with seven seconds left.  After a timeout from Butler Coach Mike Bargen the Grizzlies had one last attempt but were unable to put the ball in the basket.

Jordan Madrid-Andrews led the Grizzlies with 14 points and seven rebounds. Sean Osler and Shomari Triggs each had 13 points while Bakari Triggs added 10. The Grizzlies shot 48 percent from the field in the game and held the Red Ravens to 43 percent.

The Grizzlies are now 4-1 on the season and will travel to Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa on Tuesday.
