Grizzlies race past Fort Scott in 77-54 home victory

The Butler men's basketball team increased its winning streak to five with a 77-54 victory over the Fort Scott Greyhounds on Saturday. With the victory, the Grizzlies improve to 9-2 on the season.

Freshman guard Larry Fitzgerald led all scorers with 19 points. Sophomore Sean Osler added 12 points, while Eric Watson scored 11 in the win.

The Grizzlies pounced on the Greyhounds early with a 7-0 run to open the game and led by as many as 21 points in the opening half. Butler took a 35-19 lead at halftime, helped by limiting Fort Scott to just 21 percent shooting from the field.

Fort Scott would make a 9-0 run to pull within 12 early in the second half, but would come no closer.

Larry Fitzgerald's three-pointer at the 4:15 mark put Butler up 75-44, capping a 13-2 run and giving the Grizzlies their largest lead of the game.

Butler shot 52 percent (30-of-58) from the field and outscored Fort Scott by a 44-24 margin in the lane.

The Grizzlies will travel to Chanute on Monday for a 7:30 p.m. contest against Neosho County.
