Butler men race past Cloud for third straight win

The Butler men won their third game in a row with a 73-53 win at home over Cloud County on Wednesday at the Power Plant.

The Grizzlies jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and never looked back. Butler led by as many as 17 points in the first half and was up 40-24 at the half.

Butler continued to play suffocating defense in the second half. The Grizzlies never saw their lead drop below 14 points and at one point led by as many as 23 points late in the game.

The Grizzlies forced 20 Cloud turnovers and held the conference's best three-point shooting team to 1-16 shooting from beyond the arc, including 0-9 in the second half.

Meanwhile, Butler had four players in double figures in the game. Shomari Triggs had 14, Sean Osler had 13, Sean Goodwin tied his career high with 12 and Trent Richardson scored 10.

Butler is now 16-4 overall and 4-2 in Jayhawk Conference play, which puts the Grizzlies in a tie for third place with No. 19 Barton. The Grizzlies travel to Seward County on Saturday. The Saints are 14-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play after a road win at Garden City on Wednesday.
