Osler's double-double leads Butler men to sweep of Garden

The Butler men completed a season sweep of Garden City on Saturday night, cruising to a 69-55 win over the Broncbusters in the Power Plant that was powered by a double-double performance by sophomore Sean Osler.

Osler led the Grizzlies with 13 points and 10 rebounds and was the catalyst early, when Butler jumped out in front by a 9-2 score. Midway through the half, Shomari Triggs would score four straight points and Butler led 19-7. Garden City shaved Butler's lead slightly, but it would be an Osler 3-pointer with 5:10 left in the first half that put the Grizzlies back in front by double digits at 26-15.

From that point, Butler accelerated to the end of the first half, taking an 18-point lead when Osler made a basket and free throw to make it 35-17 with 2:40 left in the period. The Grizzlies would lead by the same margin at half, 39-21.

Butler continued to have a stranglehold on the contest into the second half, eventually leading by as many as 23 points after a basket by Sean Goodwin made it 62-39 with 9:10 to play in the contest.

Garden City would make a late run, including a basket with less than a second left in the contest, to get back within 14 points at the end.

In addition to the double-double from Osler, Butler would get 11 points from Shomari Triggs and nine from Ja'ln Williams, who also electrified the crowd with a block from behind to stunt a Garden City fast break opportunity in the second half.

Butler is now 17-6 overall and 5-4 in Jayhawk West Conference play while Garden City falls to 10-13 and 2-7. The Grizzlies, who also beat Garden City 76-55 on the road in January, win both games by an average margin of victory of 17.5 points. It is Butler's first season sweep of Garden City since the 2009-10 season.
