Butler men end season with quarterfinal loss at Coffeyville

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. -- The 2012-13 season came to a close for the Butler men with an 81-72 loss in the Region VI quarterfinals at No. 2 Coffeyville on Tuesday night.

Butler finishes the season at 24-8 overall. It is the third time in the past five seasons they have won 24 or more games.

Coffeyville never trailed in the game, as the Red Ravens scored the game's first nine points. Butler would pull within four on three separate occasions in the first half, but a key 9-0 run by Coffeyville towards the end of the half helped the Ravens grab a 42-29 halftime lead.

The Red Ravens led by as many as 18 in the second half. Trailing 54-36, Butler would cut the deficit to 10 with an 8-0 run that was capped with a Trent Richardson three-pointer with 13:42 to play.

Butler then used a 13-4 run to cut the Ravens' lead to four, 66-62, with 5:04 remaining. During the run, Shomari Triggs and Trent Richardson each scored four points, while Larry Fitzgerald added a trey from the corner. However, the Grizzlies could not come any closer as Coffeyville would push the margin to 76-65 with just under two minutes to play.

Freshman Shomari Triggs led the Grizzlies with 19 points, with 7-of-14 shooting from the field. Sean Goodwin finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Trent Richardson added 14 in the loss. Cameron Craig led Coffeyville with 22 points.
