The Butler men held off hard-charging Allen County on Wednesday at the Power Plant in El Dorado, getting a 67-65 win in conference play.

Butler fell behind 65-64 with 1:21 to play, but that would be Allen's final points of the game. The Grizzlies made two big plays in the final minute as Larry Fitzgerald would take a charge with 43.2 seconds to play and Shomari Triggs hit a floater in the lane from six feet out to put Butler back ahead 66-65 with 20.3 seconds to play.

Both teams missed a pair of free throws in the closing seconds before Bakari Triggs made one of two free throws with six seconds left. Allen County could not get a shot off before the final buzzer sounded.

The late dramatics came after Butler led by double digits on several occasions in both halves. The Grizzlies scored the first four points of the contest, but later found themselves behind 10-8 midway through the period. Butler would then go on a 13-0 run that included four points by Shomari Triggs and a 3-pointer by Trent Richardson.

That put the Grizzlies up 21-10. Labette would get back within three points later in the half, but another surge at the end of the period gave Butler a 38-29 lead at the intermission.

Early in the second half, Butler regained its double-digit lead, going up 55-45 on a basket by Shomari Triggs with 16:10 to play.

The tenor of the game changed moments later when Allen's Tyrone Jones hit his head on the floor. The game was stopped for several minutes to tend to Jones, who was eventually taken to an area hospital for further evaluation.

That was when Allen would begin to chip away at Butler's lead, eventually taking that brief lead with 81 seconds left.

Trent Richardson scored 16 points to lead the Grizzlies in scoring.  Shomari Triggs had 14 and Lamar Wofford-Humprhrey scored 10.

The Grizzlies are now 16-5 on the season, 2-1 in Jayhawk East Conference play. Butler will continue its two-game homestand on Saturday with a 4 p.m. tipoff against Labette. The Cardinals come in at 11-9 overall and 1-1 in conference after an overtime loss at Neosho on Wednesday.
