Former Creighton University standout Ben Walker was recently hired as an assistant basketball coach on the Butler Grizzlies men's basketball staff.

Walker, who comes to Butler after two seasons as an assistant at Des Moines Area (Iowa) Community College, played Division I basketball at Creighton (Neb.) University.

At DMACC, Walker's duties included recruiting coordinator, player development, scouting and game preparation, academic coordinator, and camp coordinator. Walker also oversaw all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the program.

At Creighton, Walker helped the Bluejays to the National Invitational Tournament, as well as three consecutive NCAA Tournaments. Walker was a two-time second-team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection in his junior and senior seasons. Walker was also named to the MVC All-Tournament Team in 2000 and All-Defense team in 2001. He was a 2010 inductee into the Creighton Athletic Hall of Fame, as he is among the top 10 players in school history in steals and rebounds.

After graduating Creighton in 2002, he went on to play professional basketball for six years in Qatar, Latvia, Australia and Norway. He made the Latvian All-Star game in 2005 and was named Most Valuable Player.

After playing professionally, he continued his passion for basketball with the Hawks Foundation. During his four years at the foundation, he coached and trained middle school and high school students as well as provided and created strength and conditioning workouts for college students and professional players.
