Bargen resigns to take position at Bradley; Walker named interim

Butler men's basketball coach Mike Bargen has accepted a position as an assistant coach at Bradley University.

Bargen led Butler to considerable success in men's basketball in his eight years as head coach, including six years of 20 or more victories, two conference titles, a regional championship and two trips to the national tournament. Dozens of former players went on to play at four-year institutions. Butler twice won 29 games in a season (2010 and 2015) and this year broke the school's modern-day record with 22 consecutive victories.

"In addition to winning, Coach Bargen also handled himself and his program in a first-class manner," athletic director Todd Carter said. "We are certainly saddened to see him and his family leave Butler, but we also understand this is a fantastic opportunity for him and we wish him all the best."

An immediate search for Bargen's replacement has begun. Assistant Ben Walker has been promoted to interim head coach.
