Butler men stay undefeated at home with 109-62 win over Sterling

The Butler men continued to play well at home, rolling to a 109-62 win over Sterling JV on Tuesday night at the Power Plant.

The Grizzlies, who had started the season 0-3 on the road, won their second straight home game by beating Sterling. Butler never trailed in the game, as Travis House hit three 3-pointers in the first two minutes of the contest to put Butler ahead 9-3.

Butler pushed the lead to 20 points for the first time when Derrick Byrd made a free throw with 8:08 left in the first half. The Grizzlies led by as many as 29 in the first half and had a 55-30 advantage at halftime.

The Grizzlies just missed matching their first-half output in the second half, scoring 54 points over the final 20 minutes. Butler hit triple digits when Ken Perkins hit a 3-pointer to make it 101-55 with 3:48 to play.

Butler was led in scoring by Ken Perkins, who had 18 points, all in the second half as he was 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Damien Akao and Travis House had 12 points apiece while Caelan Neal had 11 and Derrick Byrd had 10.

The Grizzlies made a season-high 14 three-pointers in the contest and hit 50% (14-of-28) from behind the arc. Butler also forced 20 turnovers, which led to 24 points off turnovers. The Grizzlies also dominated the boards by outrebounding Sterling by a 40-23 margin. Will Adler led Butler with eight rebounds.

Butler is now 2-3 on the season and will remain at home for two games this weekend, facing Tabor JV on Friday and Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa on Saturday. Both games are slated for 7:30 p.m. tipoffs.
