Butler men hands Colby its first conference loss

COLBY, Kan. - The Butler men pulled away late at Colby on Wednesday to earn a 79-74 win at the Colby Community Building, handing the Trojans their first conference loss of the season.

The game was a makeup of a game from earlier in December that had been postponed due to weather. It was also Butler's first game in three weeks due to the holiday break.

Caelan Neal scored eight early points as Butler took a 19-15 lead with 8:52 left in the first half. After a Travis House 3-pointer, Butler stretched the lead to 28-19 with 5:33 left in the first half.

Colby responded with a 7-0 run to get back into the game and Butler led 39-35 at the break after Romales Walker hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the Grizzlies.

The game continued to be a tight one throughout the second half with Colby scoring five straight points to tie the score 70-70 with two minutes to play. Butler answered by scoring six straight points and held on late for the four-point victory.

Rashawn Chapman led Butler with 16 points, while Caelan Neal and Derrick Byrd added 14 and 12. Ken Perkins led Butler in rebounding with six boards, as well as a pair of blocked shots.

Butler is now 10-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play and will host Cloud County at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
