INDEPENDENCE, Kan. – The Butler men rolled to a second-straight road win by double digits, beating Independence 87-70 on Saturday.

Butler, which won 84-71 on Monday at Cowley, took an early lead and never looked back at Independence. The Grizzlies jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead. Independence would get within a point at 10-9 with 12:26 left in the half, but the Grizzlies quickly pushed the lead back to six at 17-11.

Travis House would sink three 3-pointers later in the first half and Butler stretched the lead to 38-23 at the intermission.

Butler's biggest lead would be by 22 points when they led 50-28. Independence would surge back, getting within six points at 64-58 with six minutes left to play.

Butler would finish the game on a 23-12 run to close out the 17-point road win. It was a 36-point turnaround from an earlier game with Independence, when Butler lost 88-69 on its home floor three weeks earlier.

Caelan Neal led Butler with 21 points, while Derrick Byrd added 18 points. Travis House hit five 3-pointers in the game and finished with 15 points. Malik Hart led Independence with 16 points.

Butler made 58 percent of its shots from the floor (33-57) and made half of its 3-point attempts (10-20). Butler shot 57 percent or better in both of its games this week.

The Grizzlies, who have won three out of four, are now 14-11 overall and 6-8 in Jayhawk Conference play. Butler will play two home games next week, with a chance to avenge earlier losses to Neosho and Coffeyville.
