The Butler men’s basketball program has announced a signing class of 12 players, adding to a solid returning core of five players from last season.
Of the 12 signees, five are from the state of Kansas, three are from Texas and one each hail from Lousiana, Indiana and Nebraska.
They will join returners Will Adler and Semaj Hervey from last year’s team. Jacolby Harris, who took a medical redshirt last season
Here is a look at each of the new signees, with comments on each from head coach Bryan Miller.
OUT-OF-STATE SIGNEES
Antferene Adams is a 6’7” power foward from Homer High School, in Homer Louisiana. He is coming off a 1st team All-District campaign in his senior season. During his senior season, he averaged 17 PPG, 13 REBS and 2BLKS. Coach Miller quote: “Anfernee is really going help us on the glass. He is a big, strong post minded presence and gives us a toughness in the paint”
LaJuan Hardy is a 5’10” Point Guard from Victory Prep School, in Houston, Texas. Rated #5 point guard in the city of Houston. During his senior campaign, he was selected to 1st Team All-State in the Texas Christian Athletic League (TCAL). Hardy averaged 15 PPG, 8 ASSTS, and 3 STLs a contest. Coach Miller quote: “I really think the Butler fans will enjoy watching LaJuan play. He makes everyone around him better and is very scrappy.”
Ketarrious Bouchum is a 6’5” Shooting Guard from James Madison High School, in Dallas, Texas. He averaged 14 pts, 7 rebs and shot 60% from the field in each contest. Bouchum was also 1st team all-district, all-area selections and an All-Dallas ISD all-star recipient. Coach Miller quote: “I’m very excited to coach Ketarrious. He is long, athletic and skilled. We expect big things out of him, and are excited about what he can bring to our program.”
Antonio Singleton is a 6’7” wing from North Central High School, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a Marion County All-Star and also an Indiana All-Star honorable mention selections. In his senior campaign, he averaged 18 PPG, 5 REBS and 2 STLS a contest. Coach Miller quote: “Antonio has a chance to be a really good player in our league. His length and athleticism will make him very versatile.”
LaDarrian Burney is a 6’3” Shooting Guard from Skyline High School, in Dallas, Texas. Averaged 18 PPG, 6 REBS, 2 STLS and 2 BPG. He was selected First-team All-district and also was voted Defensive Player of the Year by the coaches in his district. Also, an All-Dallas ISD all-star selection. Coach Miller quote: “LaDarrian is as tough as they come. He has a chance to be a lock-down defender and will bring a lot of intangibles.”
Colby Honeycutt is a 6’6” wing from Lake Ridge High School, in Mansfield, Texas. He averaged 12 points and 8 rebounds a contest during his senior season. Also, he was 2nd team all-district and an All-Tarrant County recipient and All-star. Coach Miller quote: “Colby is a long wing with a solid skill-set and a nice touch from behind the arc. I think he has a really good upside and will be a really good one for us!”
Karlon McSpadden is a 6’2” Combo Guard from Omaha South High School, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was selected 1st team All-city in his junior and senior seasons. Also, was a part of the state championship team in 2016. Ranked #3 player in the state of Nebraska. Coach Miller quote: “Karlon has tremendous feel and basketball I.Q. He can really shoot the ball and I think there are a lot schools that missed on him”
IN STATE
Justin Criddle is a 6’ Point Guard from Paola High School, in Paola, Kansas. During his senior season, Criddle averaged 18 points and 7 assists per outing. Picked up 1st team All-state and All-league honors. Criddle is also the all-time leader in assists in school history. Along with his basketball accolades, he won a state championship in the long jump. Coach Miller quote: “We are very fortunate to land Justin. He was highly recruited in our league and for good reason. He has played on a great AAU team (MoKan), and has won at Paola. He is tough competitive mindset and can run a team”
Jamal Rogers is a 6’3” wing from Haven High School, in Haven, Kansas. He averaged 18 PPG, 7 REBS a contest. He was also named 1st team All-Reno County team, as well as receiving 3rd team All-State 4A D-2 honors. Coach Miller quote: “Jamal has good size and athleticism. He is a hard worker. He will bring depth and a competitive edge to our program.”
Caleb Moore is a 5’10” Combo Guard from Wichita West High School, in Wichita, Kansas. Caleb averaged 14 points and 6 assist during his senior year and was also voted honorable mention for Greater Wichita All-City team. Coach Miller quote: “Caleb is a good kid and a hard-worker. He is a guy who will do whatever it takes to help us win”
John Madden is a 6’7” Power Forward from Topeka High School, in Topeka Kansas. He was a two year varsity letterman, received honorable mention all-league, 3rd team All-City, and made the Central Kansas All-Star game. He averaged 12ppg and 8.5 rpg as a senior. Coach Miller quote: “I think a lot of schools missed on John. He can score on the block, has good athleticism and competes his tail off. Not to mention, he’s a great student.”
