Indoor Track and Field off to hot start posting top times in NJCAA and qualifying 20 after first weekend

Twenty Butler track and field athletes hit qualifying marks in their first two meets of the season this past weekend.

The Grizzlies opened the 2022 year at the Shocker Prelude on Thursday hosted by Wichita State that saw multiple top marks posted by the Grizzlies. On Friday the Grizzlies took a condensed squad to the Arkansas Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas, a top meet that was featured on ESPN. Butler put on a show competing against some of the best across the country.

On Thursday in Wichita, 15 Grizzlies finished inside the Top-3 in the meet in their specific event.

1st Place finishers:

Kiara Brown – 60m dash 7.54

Caleb Jackson – 60m dash 6.65

Tomlee Thomas – 400m dash 51.71

Zach Trotter – 600m 1:22.69

 

2nd Place finishers:

Toshel Goffe – 60m dash 7.68

Morgan Jamison – 60m dash 6.70 (unattached)

Victor Jumo – 1 Mile run 4:29.62

Alexandra Cleveland – 600m 1:47.36

Jared Sylvester – 600m 1:22.94

 

3rd Place finishers:

David Niang – 60m hurdles 8.59

Shawnakay Peart – 60m dash 7.75

Jerod Elcock – 60m dash 6.71

Brandon Alexander-Gittens – 400m dash 53.45

Ann Dangha – 600m 1:47.72

Valeur Muyoboke – 600m 1:24.16

On Friday in Arkansas, Jerod Elcock, Caleb Jackson and the men's 4x400m relay team found themselves inside the top three while a number of other finished in the top-8 in the meet.

2nd Place finishers:

Kiara Brown holds the fastest time on the women's side in the 60m dash with a 7.54 and also the fastest time in the 400m dash with a time of 56.05. Teammate Toshel Goffe sits in third currently with a 7.66. Brown also has the second fastest 200m dash time at 24.46. Kirstin Jones sits in third in the 400m with a time of 56.93.

Caleb Jackson currently holds the fastest time in the men's 60m dash at 6.65 with Jerod Elcock and Nazzio John behind him in 2nd and 3rd at 6.71 and 6.74. John also holds the third fastest 200m dash time this season at 21.48. The men's 4x400m relay team has the second fstest time in the NJCAA at 3:14.50. 

The Grizzlies are back in action this Saturday as they compete in the NAIA/JUCO Challenge hosted by Pittsburg State University.
