Greg Franklin is in his eighth season with the Butler track and field program and begins his first year as head coach.

Prior to Butler, Franklin was the head coach at Prattville (Ala.) High School, where he coached a state 100-meter champion (current Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas, 10.79). Franklin also coached Travis Johnson (Auburn), who was a runner-up in the 100-meter dash (10.57) and a third-place finisher in the 200-meter (21.42) at the 2014 Alabama state high school meet. Johnson also had the ninth-best indoor time in the 200-meter dash (21.72) in the nation in 2014.

Franklin aslo coached the Montgomery Dream Team summer club, where he coached Mike Simmons - a fourth-place finisher in the 100 (10.54) and fifth in the 200m (21.14) at the USATF Nationals.

Franklin ran at Pratt Community College, where he still holds the school record in the 200-meter dash (21.63, 2007). Franklin was an indoor All-American in the 200m and a three-time All-American outdoor champion in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events. After Pratt, Franklin attended Middle Tennessee State University where he continued his track accomplishments.

Franklin, a native of Prattville, Ala., holds a Bachelor degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Elementary Education. Franklin is also USATF level certified.

Franklin is marred to Gabrielle Franklin and has two sons, Trevion and Barry.
