Butler Softball picks up pair of road wins over Friends

The Butler softball team (7-2, 0-0) picked up two wins Tuesday afternoon as they defeated Friends University 10-0 in 5-innings and 14-5 in game two.

GAME ONE:

Butler took game one 10-0 in a five-inning run rule.

Game one saw freshman pitcher Izzy Erickson pick up her fourth win of the season as she pitched three innings allowing no hits and striking out six in her 10 batters faced. Brooke McCorkle and Maddie Redman came in and finished it off pitching an inning a piece. Redman struck out all three of her batters faced to end the game.

Madi Young was 2-3 with two doubles and three runs scored with a stolen base. Brooke McCorkle went 2-2, one double with an RBI and a run scored. Shayna Espy finished with two RBI's and two stolen bases and pitcher Izzy Erickson got in on the action with a two RBI single.

GAME TWO:

After trailing 4-1 after two innings, Butler scored the next 10 runs and won 14-5 in game two 

Kelcie Kippes got the start for the Grizzlies and went three innings allowing four runs, three earned, off five hits. Maddie Redman came in the game in the fourth inning and pitched three, picking up the win. She gave up one run and struck out four.

Madi Young was relentless at the plate going 5-5 with four runs scored and an RBI. She had two doubles and two stolen bases. Shayna Espy had three RBI's, a double and a stolen base. Emily Adler, Ari Cordova and Hannah Knox all finished with two RBI's.

NEXT UP: Butler will take on the Cardinla of Labette in a double header on Monday, March 1 at 2:00pm & 4:00pm in Parsons, KS. They host their home opener on Friday, March 5 as they take on Bethany College JV in a double header starting at 3:00pm.
