Grizzlies sweep mid-week double header with 11 homerun performance

The Butler Softball team (13-2, 2-0) picked up their 8th and 9th straight victory with the double header sweep over Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on Tuesday afternoon from East Park in El Dorado, KS.

The Grizzlies used a 33-hit performance and 11 homeruns on Tuesday to sweep the Jets 14-0 in five-innings in game one and 24-3 in five-innings in game two.

Game One: 14-0

Izzy Erickson chalked up win number eight on the season throwing a perfect four innings. She faced 12 batters and struck out six allowing no walks. Kelcie Kippes came in relief in the top of the fifth and hit one batter, the only base runner for the Jets in game one and struck out two. The Jets only were able to send 16 batters to the plate in the game, not getting through their lineup two complete times.

Butler scored seven runs in the second inning and another seven in the fourth to put it away in run-rule fashion in game one. Anna Icenhower went 2-3 with three RBI's and a homerun. Hannah Knox was also 2-3 at the plate with two RBI's and a homerun. Ari Cordova and Gentry Shepherd were the other Grizzlies to hit homeruns in game one. Shepherd was 1-1 with three RBI's in her lone at bat.

Game Two: 24-3

Maddie Redman picked up her third win of the season starting game two in the circle for the Grizzlies. Redman went 3.0 innings allowing just one run off five hits. She gave up zero walks and struck out four. Hannah Knox and Brooke McCorkle would finish it off in the final two innings keeping the Jets grounded giving up just two more runs off a homerun in the fourth.

Game two saw seven different Grizzlies hit balls out of the park on their way to a 24-3 win, the most runs scored since March 6, 2018 when they defeated Dodge City 30-2 at home. Madi Young hit her fifth of the season, Mariah Wheeler and McKenna Jones each had their first collegiate homerun, Ari Cordova hit her third on the year, Anna Icenhower hit another in game two and Brooke McCorkle added another to her season total of six which leads the team.

Cordova and Jones both finished with four RBI's while McCorkle added in three. Shayna Espy was the only Grizzly not to record a hit in the contest as she was walked all three times at the plate. Espy was able to score each of those three times and steal two bases.

NEXT UP: Butler (13-2, 2-0) will head to Great Bend, KS to face the Barton Cougars (4-14, 0-4) in KJCCC play on Thursday, March 18 at 2:00pm and 4:00pm. They return home against Colby (11-7, 3-1) on Saturday, March 20 for a 2:00pm first pitch.
