Erickson deals and Grizzlies score 35 runs in sweep over Colby

The No. 5 Butler Softball team (15-2, 4-0) picked up a pair of KJCCC wins Saturday afternoon both in run-rule fashion winning 9-0 in game one and 26-0 in game two.

Izzy Erickson picked up her ninth win of the season in game one pitching a complete game giving up no runs off two hits with no walks and ten strikeouts.

The Grizzlies didn't have their normal explosion inning but scored two or more runs in all but the second inning to close out the Trojans 9-0 in five innings.

The Butler offense was paced by the one, two and three hole hitters who all had great at bats. Shayna Espy went 3-4 with two doubles, three RBI's two of which came in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the fifth when she ended the game with a two-run homerun. Leadoff batter Madi Young was 2-3 with three runs scored, a double and an RBI. Emily Adler went 3-3 with two RBI's and a triple.

Game two saw an offensive slaughter as the Grizzlies scored 26 runs off 17 hits winning in five-innings 26-0. Maddie Redman improved to 4-0 on the season pitching three complete innings not allowing a hit. She walked one and struck out two. Kelcie Kippes and Hannah Knox came in pitching one inning each allowing no runs to the Trojans.

Tadum Soetaert had a season high seven RBI's going 2-2 with a grand slam. Freshman Mariah Wheeler also had a grand slam in the win. Hallehannah Hale added in two doubles and three runs scored.

Butler outscored their opponents last week 73 to three runs. Butler is averaging just over 11 runs per game this season while holding their opponents to 2.82 runs per game.
