Chance hits 700 win milestone; Grizzlies win streak stretched to 23 games with non-conference sweep of Labette Tuesday on the road

Butler Softball (27-2, 14-0) extended their winning streak to 23 games after the double header sweep of the Labette Cardinals on Tuesday on the road in Parsons winning 10-0 in six-innings and 13-2 in five-innings.

With the game two win, head coach Doug Chance, now is his 17th season at the helm of the Butler softball program, picked up his 700th win in the purple and gold.

"It was just another game," said Chance in his modest manor. "I didn't even know I was close to 700 until someone told me. I like and care more about the milestones at the end of the season with championships and our players getting opportunities to move on, that is what I care about."

Izzy Erickson was back in the circle for the Grizzlies in game one picking up her 11th win of the season pitching six scoreless innings. She gave up four hits and struck out eight of her 21 batters faced in the game.

Ari Cordova went 3-4 with a homerun, a double, a run scored and five RBI's in game one. Emily Adler had three RBI's with her two singles hit in the game. Shayna Espy was 2-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Butler scored 11-runs in the first inning with the help of a Shayna Espy grand slam and held the Cardinals scoreless through the first four as they picked up the 11-2 run-rule win in five-innings over Labette.

Maddie Redman, reigning KJCCC Pitcher of the Week, remained undefeated on the season chalking up win number 10 pitching three scoreless innings. She gave up just two hits, walked one and struck out six in her 11 batters faced.

Sophomore Shayna Espy had a game high six RBI's going 2-4 at the plate with a grand slam. Emily Adler followed up the grand slam with a solo homerun and was 2-2 with two runs scored in the game.

Madi Young was 0-3 with two walks in game two ending a 36 game hitting streak dating back to last season.

Butler has a team batting average of .449 with a .518 on base percentage. They have scored 367 runs this season and have totaled 376 hits, 59 of which have been homeruns. They have held their opponents to a .231 batting average and while only allowing an earned run average of 2.26 per game. 

NEXT UP: Butler will get back to KJCCC Div. I action on Saturday, April 10 as they play host to the Seward Saints from East Park in El Dorado with a first pitch at 12:00pm.
