Madi Young wins Greater Wichita ‘Female Athlete of the Year’

Wichita, KS - Madi Young joins her older sister and two other former Grizzlies on the prestigious list of winners after being named the Greater Wichita Area 'Female Athlete of the Year' Thursday night at the Great Wichita Sports Commission Banquet.

"It's an honor to win this award," said Young, "because it shows all of the time where I was frustrated with my swing or frustrated with my fielding and working through those challenges & continuing to grind has finally payed off."

Young joins the likes of Butler greats Madison Wedekind (2015), Brynn Minor (2016 & 2017) and Kenzie Young (2018) who have all been honored with this award in years past.

"Winning this award after my sister and all the Butler softball Players is a true testament of the atmosphere and culture we have at Butler," commented Young on joing her sister in winning this award. "Kenzie is my best friend and being able to play beside her and now win this is the best feeling."

Head coach Doug Chance has now coached three winners of this award and won 'Coach of the Year' himself two times.

"I am so proud of Madi," said head Butler softball coach Doug Chance. "She is one of the hardest working athletes I've coached and to see her being honored at such a prestigious event is something for the entire Butler community to be proud of."

Young is a graduate of Derby High school and just finished up her second year (academically) at Butler maintaining a 4.0 GPA during her two years. Due to COVID-19, Young has not exhausted any seasons of softball eligibility and plans to return to Butler during the 2021-22 season.
