Butler picks up two wins over Friends Unvierstiy

The third ranked Butler Grizzlies continued their unbeaten start to the season, rolling over the Friends Falcons for two wins on Tuesday afternoon at Two Rivers in Wichita, winning 16-0 in game one and finishing things with a 10-0 win in the second game.

Game One

Three pitchers combined for a no hitter as Emma Koeneke secured her third win of the season. Koeneke pitched three innings and gave up no runs or hits on seven strikeouts. Koeneke has now pitched 10 consecutive innings of shutout softball on the year and improves to 3-0 on the year.

Madi Young lead the Grizzlies at the plate, finishing with four RBIs on three hits. Ari Cordova and Reese Briggs both finished with three RBIs as the Grizzlies finished with 16 runs on 15 hits.

Game Two

Ryanna Valdiva starred in the second game, hitting her first home run of the season and finishing with three runs batted in as the Grizzlies scored 10 runs on 10 hits. The Grizzlies used a four run fifth inning to secure the run rule victory.

Three pitchers combined for the shutout as Allyson Montgomery earned her first win after three innings of work, finishing with five strikeouts and just two hits.  Kendyl Anderson and Ariel Matula both pitched shutouts in relief, as the Grizzlies pitching staff composed entirely of freshmen has allowed just two runs in the first four games.

The Grizzlies improve to 4-0 on the year and will go to Vernon, Texas for two games against Vernon College on Friday before facing Clarendon College for two games on Saturday.
