Butler Softball picks up two more wins in Texas

The third ranked Butler Grizzlies continued their dominant start to the season as they trounced the Clarendon College Bulldogs in two games in Texas, winning the first game, 8-0, and finishing with a 15-2 blowout to cap off the doubleheader.

Game One

Reigning KJCCC pitcher of the week Emma Koenke continued her masterful start to the season, as she earned her fourth win of the season with another shutout victory. Koenke pitched four innings and gave up zero runs on just three hits, striking out eight batters, as she has now gone 14 innings without allowing a run to start the season. 

Butler had a two run lead in the early going and they broke the game open in the fourth inning with a four run effort. Butler tacked on two more in the sixth and seventh frames to cement the victory. Madi Young starred in the game with a homer and a triple, earning two RBIs and scoring two runs. The Grizzlies finished with eight runs on 10 hits, earning four walks

Game Two

The Grizzlies scored three runs to open up the first inning and never looked back, cruising to a run rule victory in five innings, cemented by an incredible nine run fifth inning. Ten different Butler players earned hits, and five different players earned multiple RBIs, led by Young with three. Paige Paxton, Reese Briggs, Gianna De-Luca Paape, and Ryanna Valdiva all earned two runs batted in.

It was another dominant performance for the revamped Grizzlies pitching staff,  with Allyson Montgomery earning her first career win in her second appearance, giving up two runs on only one hit and striking out seven in four innings. Kendyl Anderson made an appearance in relief and gave up no runs in one inning of work.

The Grizzlies improve to 6-0 on the season, and they'll head to Branson, Missouri for four games this weekend in the Branson Bash, playing a doubleheader against Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa and Crowder College on Friday before a two game set against State Fair Community College and Three Rivers Community College on Saturday.
