Grizzlies sweep Conqs scoring 29 runs off 33 hits in the double header

The Grizzlies won two games, again in run rule fashion, to continue their dominant start to the conference season, this time sweeping Dodge City in a doubleheader, winning the first game 18-31 before finishing the sweep with an 11-3 victory at Dodge City on Sunday.

Game One

The Grizzlies rolled over the Conquistadors in the first game of the day, scoring an incredible 16 runs in the second inning, and cruising to an 18-1 victory.

Three different Butler players hit the all out of the park at Legends Park in Dodge City in the opener, as Madi Young, Ryanna Valdivia and Alex Olson all went yard. The Grizzlies scored 18 runs on 18 hits, earning 18 RBIs. Valdivia led the Grizzlies with four runs batted in, followed closely by Emily Adler with three and two doubles.

Emma Koenke won her ninth game of the season, giving up only one run on two hits, striking out two.

Game Two

The offensive firepower from the first game carried over into the second, as Butler broke the game open with a six run third inning. Mariah Wheeler provided the power for the Grizzlies in game two, hitting a home run and also earning a double in a two hit, two RBI performance. Emily Adler added two RBIs in game two, to total five RBIs on the day.

Allyson Montgomery remainded unbeaten on the mound, improving to 8-0 on the season, earning the win with a three inning performance that saw her give up no runs or hits. Kendal LeGrand and Ariel Matula came on in relief as the three Grizzlies pitchers allowed only three runs on four hits.

The two wins improve the Grizzlies record to 17-1 and 9-1 in conference play. Butler's win streak improves to seven, and they'll try to keep it rolling as they host Northwest Tech for a doubleheader at East Park on Wednesday.
