The awards keep coming for Butler shortstop Madi Young and pitcher Emma Koeneke, who have already received Jayhawk Conference and Region VI honors, as well as earning All-Region honors from the National Fastpitch Softball Association, with the duo being announced as both National Fastpitch Coaches Association and National Junior College Athletic Association All-Americans when the list was announced on Tuesday.
The duo of Young and Koeneke who helped lead the Grizzlies to a 48-4 overall record to go along with their 11th straight KJCCC title, sixth straight Region VI and District titles along with the sixth straight trip to the NJCAA National Touranment, have been recognized nationally for their performances on the diamond this season. Madi Young was named NJCAA First Team and NFCA Second Team All-American while Emma Koeneke was voted second team for both NJCAA & NFCA All-American.
For the second consecutive season, Madi Young, sophomore shortstop from Derby, KS, was named an NJCAA First Team All-American in the NJCAA and is now also a two-time All-American in the NFCA in addition to winning the Golden Shoe award last season in the NFCA. Young was, once again, one of the nation's best hitters, finishing the season in the top-five in the entire nation in doubles (1st - 29), on-base percentage (2nd - .646), batting average (3rd - .564), slugging percentage (3rd - 1.141), triples (3rd - 9) and runs scored (4th - 95). She stole 48 bags on the season, good for 13th in the NJCAA while getting caught just three times. Young hit leadoff for the Grizzlies the last two and a half seasons and in her 492 plate appearances was struckout just three (3) times.
Emma Koeneke, true freshman pitcher from Platte City, MO, began her college career with a dominant freshman season inside the circle. Koeneke was named to the second team NJCAA and NFCA All-American team. The freshman won 25 of her 27 starts this season and appeared in 33 games for the Grizzlies. She struck out 157 hitters in 105.1 innings pitched on the year, allowing only 1.46 runs per game. She finished 5th in the nation in wins this season with 25 and her 1.46 ERA was good for 14th in the entire NJCAA. Koeneke's 10.43 strikeouts per game was good for seventh in the nation.
