Grizzlies picked to repeat as Jayhawk Conference champions in preseason poll

Story by Wyatt Ebersole

With just two days left until the Butler Softball team begins the 2023 campaign, the Jayhawk Conference has released their projections for the season standings. The Grizzlies have once again been picked to finish first place in the Jayhawk Conference, something they have done for the past 11 seasons.

Head coach Morgan Bohanan will enter her first season at the helm of the Grizzlies after spending the past two as an assistant under legendary Butler coach Doug Chance. As mentioned earlier, the Grizzlies are coming into the season having won 11 straight Jayhawk Conference titles, while also having won 10 of the last 11 Region VI Championships.

The Grizzlies lost their first conference games in two years last season as the Hutch Blue Dragons managed to split the season series with the Grizzlies last year 2-2. The Blue Dragons are picked to finish second in the Jayhawk Conference, and they will likely be the major challenger to the Grizzlies reign of dominance.

Butler Softball opens the season ranked #7 in the NJCAA Preseason Poll and they will start their season in Waco, Texas on Saturday at the Battle on the Bosque, where the Grizzlies will play four games against teams in the NJCAA Top-20 in two days.
