Boman scores in final seconds of double overtime to propel Grizzlies to 1-0 victory

It took 109:48, but the Butler soccer team got it done in the final moments avoiding a tie on the road Wednesday night at Coffeyville winning in double overtime 1-0 over the Red Ravens.

As time was winding down in the second overtime period, Ellie MacDonald was set up with a free kick from 50-yards out. She launched it into the box where Madeline Boman stretched up above the defense and got a head on the ball sending it past the keeper for the walk off win.

The Grizzlies were in control most of the match but could never get over the hump to gain an advantage. They had 18 total shots in regulations, threatening multiple times in but were unable to find the goal hitting three shots off the frame with another seven shots on goal stopped by the Coffeyville keeper.

"It was a resilient performance by our girls," said head coach Adam Hunter. "We are understanding and materializing that our success is in the details. It has to be important enough, and tonight, it was."

Butler finished the night with 22 shots, eight on goal while the Red Ravens mustered just two shots on goal, both of which were saved by Kyrah Klumpp.

The Grizzlies, after having sealed the program's 12th KJCCC championship last Saturday night against Neosho, have one game remaining in KJCCC play. They host Johnson County on Sunday, October 24 with a 1:00pm kickoff at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
