Grizzlies pick up road victory against longtime foe Johnson County

The Butler Grizzlies improved to 2-0 in conference play with a tough road win in Overland Park on Wednesday as they defeated Johnson County, 3-2.

The No. 7-ranked Grizzlies improve to 6-2 overall with the victory and are now 4-0 in games played away from home.

The Grizzlies had to come from behind after Johnson County opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Butler found the first half equalizer four minutes later, as Madeline Bowman headed home an excellent corner kick.

Butler piled on the pressure and eventually the floodgates opened after halftime, as Butler scored two goals in quick succession that proved crucial. Yossi Vilagrana scored off a rebound after collecting her own miss and scooping it into the net to give Butler the lead, and two minutes later it was Brooke Sullivan scoring her sixth goal of the season to put Butler up by two.

Johnson County pulled a goal back late in the game but the Grizzlies stood firm, as they ran out the clock to secure the one goal victory.

Butler will look to extend their winning streak to three games as they head for a clash with the Cowley Tigers in Arkansas City on Saturday at 2:00pm.
