The Grizzlies climbed into the top four of the national polls following their 5-1 victory over the Dodge City Conquistadors in the opening round of the Region IV playoffs on Sunday. The Grizzlies climb one spot to fourth in this edition of the national rankings, their highest ranking since November 8th, 2016, when the Grizzlies were ranked second.
The Grizzlies are now 17-2-1 on the year and are ranked behind only Hill, Seminole State, and Tyler. Hill and Seminole State are the only two teams to beat the Grizzlies this season, and both teams have lost just once this season, while top ranked Tyler still holds on to the only unbeaten record in the nation, at 18-0.
The Grizzlies have defeated five of the teams in the top 20 this week, with wins over Iowa Western, Laramie, and Monroe in nonconference and Hutchinson and Barton in conference play. The Blue Dragons and the Cougars are the other two representatives of the Jayhawk Conference in the polls, with Barton coming in at 15th while Hutch is just two spots below at 17th.
The Grizzlies will see the Blue Dragons next up, as they face off against Hutchinson at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita in the semi-finals of the Region VI tournament on Wednesday. The Grizzlies, with a win, will face either Barton or Coffeyville again in the final for a chance to win the region and head to the national tournament for the 10th time in program history.
