Butler Volleyball falls to 0-3 in conference play and 2-5 overall after dropping a road match at Garden City 3-1 Wednesday night.

The Grizzlies got off to a slow start as Garden City jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in set one. They would never relinquish that lead as they led all game. The Grizzlies closed the gap within one-point multiple times, the last being 21-20, but were unable to gain the lead and fell in set one 25-21.

Butler came alive in the second set with an aggressive offensive attack while dominating the net to take a 9-3 lead. They would double up the Broncbusters later in the set leading 12-6 and would continue to keep them at arm's length all the way through the set. Butler won set two 25-15 to even up the match at 1-1.

Set three saw seven lead changes and eight ties as both teams battled for the advantage early in the set. The Broncbusters took advantage of some Grizzly unforced errors and took a five-point, 18-13 lead. A Morgan Bryand kill through the Garden block would bring Butler within three, 17-20, but that would be the closest the Grizzlies would get as Garden went on to take set three 25-19.

Garden City would not let up again taking a quick lead in the fourth set of the night. Butler would gain the lead once during the set at 10-9, but Garden was determined to get their first conference win since 2017 and went on to win the set 25-14.

Morgan Bryand and Jaryn Benning led the Grizzlies in kills with eight a piece while Milayna Hollinger finished the night with seven. Jaryn Benning also had 15 digs and three blocks. Sydney Scanlon recorded 29 set assists, nine digs and served up two aces. Bryand also added two serving aces in the match, with seven digs and two blocks.

The Grizzlies start conference play 0-3, with the other losses to No. 1 Seward and RV Colby last week and are 2-5 overall. They will host a triangular on Friday, September 6 taking on McCook (NE) at 1:00pm followed by Hesston College at 5:00pm.
