Grizzlies fall in straight sets to No. 4 Seward

Butler Volleyball dropped their second straight conference match and second time losing this season to the No. 4 ranked Seward Saints Saturday night in Liberal losing in straight sets 3-0.

Seward (14-2, 8-0) controlled throughout the match never allowing the Grizzlies to gain any momentum offensively holding the to a .069 hitting percentage while hitting .400 on the day.

Seward dominated in set one defeating Butler 25-6 as the Grizzlies only had two kills in the set. Seward held the Grizzlies in check and carried the momentum from set one into the final two sets winning 25-14 and 25-15 to close out the match.

Butler started to click offensively in set three as they held a 9-8 lead early in the set and had it tied at 13-13 half way through the set. Seward responded outscoring Butler 12-2 to win the set 25-15 and taking the match 3-0. 

Amalie Rupertova led the Grizzlies with five kills and six digs in the match. Milayna Hollinger and Morgan Bryand both finished with four kills apiece and Hollinger recorded four blocks. Sydney Scanlon added 14 set assists, four digs and three blocks.

Butler (9-7, 4-5) will host Colby (14-2, 7-1 ) on Wednesday at 6:30pm in El Dorado before playing four matches this coming weekend at the Ramada Inn Classic in Columbus, NE.

NOTES: Butler hasn't defeated Seward since September 26, 2014 and Seward hasn't lost a regular season conference match since September 28, 2016 when Colbby defeated the Saints 3-0 in Colby, KS.
