Butler Volleyball rolls through weekend undefeated at the McCook Invitational

The Butler Grizzlies extended their winning streak to seven games with a weekend sweep, picking up four wins in McCook, Nebraska, as they defeated Eastern Wyoming and McCook on Friday before finishing the weekend with wins against Cisco and Laramie County.

Match One 

The Grizzlies made quick work of Eastern Wyoming to start the weekend, winning in straight sets in dominating fashion (25-8, 25-8, 25-8).

The Grizzlies combined for a season high 16 service aces in the victory, including six from Ivy Fink. Fink led the team in kills as well, earning 10, followed close behind by Kennedy Kelly with nine. Butler played great defensive volleyball, holding the Lancers to just 11 kills as a team.

Match Two

The Grizzlies won the second match of the day against the host team McCook, dropping the second set before finishing the game by winning the next two to take the match, 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-16, 25-15).

Carrie Roe powered Butler to the win, earning 12 kills, tying her season high. Butler was excellent in service again, reaching 16 aces for the second consecutive match. 

Match Three 

Saturday morning saw Butler's third victory of the weekend, as they dropped the first set before coming from behind to win the next three to take the match (23-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-19)

Match Four

The Grizzlies needed all five sets to complete the weekend, winning against Laramie County (WY) in a thriller. The Grizzlies dropped the second and third sets before coming from behind to win the fourth, finally cementing the win in the decisive fifth to take home a 3-2 victory (25-19, 20-25, 21-25, 25-15, 15-8).

With the victories, Butler improves to 7-4 off the back of their seven game winning streak. They'll return to conference play this week as they play just their second home match of the season, hosting Colby at the Power Plant on Wednesday at 6:00pm.
