Sanchez claims second KJCCC ‘Runner of the Week’ honors with top finish at Chile Pepper Festival

Michelle Sanchez, sophomore from Junction City, KS, claimed her second Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference 'Runner of the Week' honors after a great performance Saturday in Arkansas.

Sanchez was the top NJCAA finisher in Race Two at the Chile Pepper Cross-Country Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas this past weekend. She finished 14th overall out of 351 runners with a 5K time of 18:40.2.

She was just three seconds off a new personal best in the race and ran the fastest time in the region this week.

"We're really proud of Michelle's hard work and how she's leading our team in the right direction," said head coach Dustin Mettler. "I'm not sure when the last time we had a girl named KJCCC runner of the week, but she's done it twice this year. I believe she still has a lot of room for improvement."
