Butler women’s track and field sprinter Star Mpama and softball infielder Claire Lopez have been selected as the White Eagle Credit Union Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 29 through Feb. 4th.

Star Mpama (Women’s Track and Field)

Mpama, a sophomore sprinter from Nigeria, was named athlete of the week for a second consecutive week. Mpama broke the Butler school record in the women’s 800m (2:16.53) at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The time was also a season-best for her and the 16th best time in NJCAA. Mpama was also part of the women’s 4x400m relay that finished with a season best time of 3:51.43 for the fifth best time in the NJCAA this season.

Jonathan Farinha (Men’s Track and Field)

Farinha, a sophomore from Trinidad and Tobago, has now been named the WECU Athlete of the Week twice this season as he rolled up an impressive performance at the Tyson Invitational last weekend. Farinha placed 10th in the meet in the 200m (21.21) and the time was good for the 9th best mark in NJCAA this season. He was also part of the men’s 4x400m relay that finished 13th (3:12:62) in the meet among multiple D1 and S2 schools.
