Butler cross country athlete Adem Bouldjadj and Butler soccer midfielder Sakiko Manabe have been selected as Butler Grizzly Athletes of the week for the week of Aug. 28 through Sept. 3, presented by White Eagle Credit Union.

Adem Bouldjadj (Cross Country)

Bouldjadj placed first at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic in Hutchinson behind a time of 19:19.88, just missing out on the course record by nine seconds. He won the race by a whopping 54 seconds. He finished first ahead of student-athletes from schools such as Fort Hays, Northwest Kansas, Tabor, Bethel, and a host of KJCCC and other community college programs.

Bouldjadj was named the KJCCC men's cross country athlete of the week by conference officials on Tuesday.

Bouldjadj (Jijel, Algeria) picks up the first honors of the season after a stellar performance at the first race of the season for the Grizzlies, the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic at Fun Valley Sports Complex on Sept. 1.

The Grizzlies and Bouldjadj will next compete at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course on Friday, Sept. 15, at 3:30 p.m. CT.

Sakiko Manabe (Soccer)

Manabe scored two goals in Butler soccer’s first win of the season, a shellacking of No. 5 Monroe CC in Overland Park on Sunday, Sept. 3.

The two goals in the game made it three on the season for Manabe, who is now the Grizzlies leading scorer. The Grizzlies jumped out to an early lead when Manabe took a pass from outside the area and placed it into the upper right corner for what proved to be the game winner in the Grizzlies’ 4-0 victory over the Tribunes. Manabe later added a second goal when she calmly finished a cross inside the penalty area. Manabe’s other goal, this season, came in a 1-1 draw at nationally ranked Barton on August 26.
