Baseball's Magic Run In Super Regional Ends Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. – The eighth-seeded KCKCC baseball team nearly advanced back into the Region VI Super Regional Tournament championship game this past weekend. After defeating No. 3 seed Butler 8-0 and No. 1 seed Barton 8-2, the Blue Devils faced No. 4 seed Cowley in an elimination game where the Tigers prevailed 4-1.

The Blue Devils finished the season with a 40-23 overall record.

FRIDAY
The Blue Devils had no trouble getting past Butler. A four-run eighth inning capped off the 8-0 shutout, while Maclane Finley and Mason Davenport held the opposition to just three hits. Gehrig Goldbeck led the hitting attack with a triple and three RBI.

SATURDAY
KCKCC started the day playing Barton and allowed the Cougars to score just one run each in the second and fifth innings. Jett Buck and Christian Ammann each hit home runs for the Blue Devils. Alan Mercado pitched a historic game – throwing all nine innings and striking out nine batters.

The win against Barton advanced KCKCC one game away from facing Johnson County in the championship bracket. The Blue Devils faced Cowley, falling behind 4-0 after five innings. KCKCC managed four hits in the game and scored a run in the eighth frame as Lee Allen Jr. knocked in Matthew Buffington. But that would be all the team could muster as Cowley earned the victory.

Jase Woita led the team with two hits.
