Grizzlies Drop 2 at Cowley

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. – Butler baseball had a tough afternoon at the Tiger Baseball Field on Thursday, dropping two games to the Cowley Tigers.

Butler (17-13) managed just two runs in two games as Cowley (22-8) outscored them 25-2 on the afternoon.

The series shifts to McDonald Stadium on Saturday with first pitch set for 1 p.m.

Game 1: Cowley 7, Butler 0

Butler shortstop Taber Stokes had the only hit of the game for the Grizzlies as Cowley won it 7-0.

Caden Kickhaefer (L, 4-2) suffered the loss as the Butler starting pitcher threw 4.0 innings allowing six runs on five hits, striking out two and walking three.

Cowley's Iziah Salinas got the start on the mound and earned the win as he went 6.0 innings allowing one hit, no runs and striking out nine to no walks.

Butler allowed just six hits to Cowley but a three-run home run in the second inning by Dane Harvey gave the Tigers all the momentum.

Game 2: Cowley 18, Butler 2

Game two went only seven innings as Cowley ripped off a 18-2 run rule win.

Butler's bats improved from game one but the Tigers bats were even better as they plated 18 runs on 19 hits. They plated three or more runs in the first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth.

Butler starter Jack Laird (L, 0-1) was hit with the loss, allowing seven runs in 2,1 innings of work, walking two.

Three more relievers pitched for Butler with each allowing three or more runs.

Anibal Rivera and Micah Kobuszewski each drove in runs for the Grizzlies. Taber Stokes finished with a hit and a walk.

Cowley's Dane Harvey led the Tigers with three hits, five RBI and five runs scored.
