Grizzlies Drop 2 at Cloud to Close Regular Season

CONCORDIA, Kan. – Butler struggled to hold Cloud County off the scoreboard on Saturday afternoon at Lee Doyen Field, falling 14-3 and 9-5.

Both the Grizzlies (30-25, 19-13 KJCCC) and T-Birds (38-18, 22-10) regular seasons come to and end. Both teams will host a first round series next week in the Region VI playoffs.

Game 1: Cloud County 14, Butler 3

Butler got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to RBI singles from Anibal Rivera.

Cloud made it 2-1 in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly and tied the game in the second with a Cam Macleod RBI single.

Butler re-took the lead in the fourth as Breon Horne legged out an infield single with two outs, sending Charlie Marcantel home from third.

The rest of the game was all T-Birds as they outscored Butler 12-0 across the bottom of the fourth through the sixth when they secured the run rule win.

Horne was 2-2 with an RBI, the lone Grizzly with two or more hits. Butler did not walk in the game.

Bradyn McClure (L, 4-5) was saddled with the loss allowing seven earned runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings of work. He struck out four and walked two.

Jack Laird threw an inning in relief allowing six runs on six hits.

Cloud's Demitri Shakotko and Macleod each had three hits while Macleod had four RBI.

Noah Bourgeois (W, 3-0) threw a complete game allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking none.

Game 2: Cloud County 9, Butler 5

The Grizzlies once again struck first in the first inning off an Anibal Rivera RBI single before Cloud brought two home in the bottom half. The T-Birds led 5-1 after three innings before four Grizzly runs in the fourth made it a 5-5 game.

Cloud scored four unanswered runs over the final 5.0 innings to secure the win.

Garrett Fager was 3-5 with an RBI while Rivera had a team-high two RBI.

Butler used five pitchers in the game. Austin Bagnall (L, 4-3) suffered the loss with three unearned runs scoring on his watch.

The Grizzlies outhit Cloud 9-6 but three errors were costly.
