EL DORADO, Kan. – With spring football coming to a close, Butler football's 2024 schedule was unveiled on Wednesday afternoon.
The 2024 schedule is as tough as ever in head coach Brice Vignery's third year leading the charge with the Grizzlies taking on six squads that finished the 2023 season in the NJCAA top-15 rankings.
Butler finished 5-5 a season ago and is looking to right the ship in 2024. They will host six home games among the 11-game slate. Butler was 3-2 at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex in 2023 and are 7-4 at home in Vignery's two years as head coach.
The season opens on Aug. 31 with the Grizzlies hosting Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, a team that Butler defeated 32-7 in Miami, Okla., a season ago.
Week two sees Butler travel to Iowa Falls on Sept. 7 to take on the Ellsworth Panthers as the KJCCC-ICCAC alliance remains alive and well.
Conference play kicks off in week three as Butler stays on the road, this time traveling to Independence to take on the Indy Pirates at Emmot Field on Sept. 14.
Following Indy, Butler will host two home games in a row as Coffeyville comes to El Dorado on Sept. 21 for a 7 p.m. showdown. Sept. 28 sees the Grizzlies return to non-conference action with Snow College coming to town for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff. Snow last played in El Dorado in 2022 in a thriller that the Badgers won 50-49 in overtime.
Butler plays three games in the month of October. First is a road game on Oct. 12 at Highland as the Grizzlies and Scotties kick off from Porter Family Stadium at 1 p.m. Butler then hosts Garden City on Oct. 19 for a 7 p.m. kickoff in El Dorado. Closing out October, Hutchinson will host Butler at Gowans Stadium on Oct. 26.
Three games in November close out the 2023 season. The Grizzlies travel to Council Bluffs to take on the reigning national champion Iowa Western Reivers on Nov. 2. A season ago Butler narrowly lost to the Reivers at home, falling 28-21 in a game that saw the Grizzlies threaten to tie the game before a costly turnover with under two minutes to play.
The final two games of the 2024 season are at home as the Grizzlies host Dodge City (Nov. 9) at 7 p.m. and Iowa Central (Nov. 16) at 1:30 p.m.
