Grizzlies Sweep Labette at Home to End the Series 4-0

Butler Softball remains unbeaten at home this season, as they swept a midweek double header against Labette at East Park on Tuesday. The Grizzlies won game one in run rule fashion, 11-3, before cementing the sweep with a 6-1 victory in game two.

Game one of the double header opened up with a solo homer from Briona Woods. The Grizzlies scored four in the third and hit two home runs in the fourth to put the game away. Kendyl Anderson hit a solo shot down the left field line and Woods hit her second homer of the day with a blast to center field.  Anderson walked off the game with her second home run of the day in the fifth, a two run shot to right.

Allyson Montgomery earned the victory, her eighth of the year. She struck out seven batters and allowed just one earned run, pitching five innings for her second consecutive complete game.

It was a masterful performance from Ariel Matula in the circle, as she earned her first start of the year and pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits, striking out seven batters. Matula earned her first win of the season.

It was a tie game until Aly Hageman's home run to center field gave the Grizzlies their first lead of the game. Cady Dickey's fifth home run of the season was the difference maker in the pitcher's duel, a two run blast to left field that was part of a four run inning that extended Butler's lead to 5-1, and they tacked on another run in the sixth to preserve the victory.

Butler improves to 17-7 on the year, and they improve to 8-0 at home this season. They'll travel to Goodland, Kansas on Wednesday for a two game conference series with Northwest Tech before returning home for two games at East Park, hosting the Garden City Broncbusters.
