Weather Delay Ends Butler Softball’s Day Early After Falling to Cowley in Game One

Butler Softball fell to Cowley College 6-3 in game one of the nonconference double header in Ark City Monday afternoon. Game two was paused in the top of the first inning due to weather, and was eventually postponed.

In game one the Cowley Tigers started things off with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning that Cady Dickey would then answer to with a solo home run in the top of the second to tie things up. The game remained tied until the bottom of the fourth when the Tigers broke things open scoring four runs. In the top of the fifth inning, a Cady Dickey sacrifice fly brought in Briona Woods to get the Grizzlies within three. Cowley answered back with another run scored in the bottom of the fifth and a Kendyl Anderson double in the top of the seventh that brought in Mallory Young was not enough for a Butler victory as they fell 6-3.

Game two barely began with only one out recorded and the second Butler batter up to the plate before being interrupted by weather. A short delay would then turn into a postponed game. A new playing date has not yet been set at this time.

The #16 ranked Grizzlies move to 28-9 overall and remain 19-3 in conference. Butler Softball is back in action on the road Wednesday as they travel to Colby to take on the Trojans in a conference double header at 1 and 3 p.m.
