Grizzlies get first road win with fourth shutout of the season

HESSTON, Kan. – The No. 6-ranked Butler women's soccer team extended its winning steak to five straight with a 4-0 win in its first road match of the season.

The Grizzlies got two goals from Madison Wedekind, both on assists from Brittney Lawrence. The first came just six minutes into the game and the second came in the 18th minute.

In the 22nd minute, Morgan Foster scored on an assists from Kelly Sutton. The final goal of the half, and ultimately the game, came in the 35th minute on a corner kick from Alyssia Salinas that was headed into the goal by sophomore defender Darci Nightengale, her first goal of the season.

The Grizzlies were unable to build upon the lead in the second half as Hesston shut out the Grizzlies over the final 55 minutes of the contest. Hesston, though, was unable to score against keeper Kelsi Langley and the Butler defense, as Langley didn't face a shot for her second straight shutout and her fourth of the season.

Butler is now 6-1 on the season. The Grizzlies will return home to face Dodge City on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
