Leidersten hat trick helps Butler past No. 13 NOK-Tonkawa, 4-0

TONKAWA, Okla. — Butler freshman Elise Leidersten netted her second hat trick in as many games as the 12th-ranked Grizzlies shut out No. 13 Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Leidersten helped the Grizzlies to a 2-0 halftime lead by scoring both goals in the opening half, then adding a goal and an assist in the final seven minutes of play.

Butler (2-2-0 overall) will play two games this weekend in Cheyenne, Wyo., against Otero (CO) and host Laramie County. The Grizzlies will face Otero on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., then take on #2 Laramie County on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

Leidersten scored her first goal in the 16th minute by receiving a long pass from Aylin Torres, then beating the Tonkawa keeper 1-on-1. Butler then went up 2-0 in the 37th minute when Leidersten scored with the keeper out of position while defending a shot by Paige Achey. The ball was knocked around by Achey and a Tonkawa defender, then came to Liedersten for an open-net goal.

Leidersten's hat trick occurred in the 83rd minute when she headed in a ball from Tessa Irvine. Butler had a corner kick, but Tonkawa failed to clear it as the ball went to Irvine near the sideline. Irvine then lobbed a pass where Leidersten outjumped a defender for the header.

Three minutes later, Butler added its fourth goal when a chest pass from Leidersten found the feet of Zion DeWerff, who slotted a shot past the keeper.

NOTES: Butler improves to 13-4-1 overall against Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa and 7-2-0 in games played in Tonkawa. The Mavericks had won the previous two contests against the Grizzlies... Leidersten now has scored six of Butler's eight goals this season.
