Butler sophomore Karlon McSpadden and freshman Vicky Duru are the Butler Athletes of the Week, presented by the Marines.

Karlon McSpadden, Men’s Basketball

Winning back to back games for the first time since early November, the Grizzlies men’s team improved to 3-1 in January and sophomore guard Karlon McSpadden has played a major role in the team’s turn around. After missing five weeks recovering from a broken jaw, McSpadden rejoined the Grizzlies on January 3. In the Grizzlies win at Neosho, McSpadden tossed in a career-high 19 points with 14 coming in the second half. His three-point basket in the waning minutes gave the Grizzlies their first lead of the night. Against Colby, he dropped in 17 points, including hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Vicky Duru, Women’s Basketball

In the Grizzlies' two lopsided wins over Neosho and Colby, Vicky Duru made the most of her time on the court. In only nine minutes of action at Neosho, the freshman from Wylie, Texas poured in eight points while pulling down five rebounds in an 83-48 victory over the Lady Panthers. Then, in Saturday's 24-point win over Colby, Duru scored 13 points with four rebounds in only 14 minutes of action.
