The Butler baseball squad moved back into first place in the Jayhawk West standings after taking three of four games against Garden City this past weekend at McDonald Stadium.

Butler (19-13 overall, 11-5 Jayhawk West) holds a one-game lead in the standings over Dodge City and Garden City, who are both tied for second with a 12-8 conference record.

Butler will host #1 Cowley (29-1) on Tuesday in a single nine-inning contest at McDonald Stadium beginning at 3 p.m.

Game 1 – Butler 4, Garden City 2

Garden took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Ted Ramirez in the first inning, but the Grizzlies would tie the contest in the second on an RBI single by Bryant Klusener.

In the fourth, Garden jumped back in front on Mason Brown's solo homer to left.

Butler rallied back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs to take a 4-2 lead. The Grizzlies opened the rally with Luke Reynolds reaching second on a two-base fielding error, then moving to third when Channing Williams had a bunt single. Reynolds scored on a bunt single by Ty Redington. Two batters later, Zach Baker drove in Redington and Williams with a two-run single to right.

Grizzly starter Corbin Osburn retired the final six batters in order to earn the complete-game win. Osburn allowed just two runs on four hits and struck out four.

Game 2 – Butler 13, Garden City 3 (7 innings)

Butler took advantage of six errors and had 10 hits in the run-rule win Saturday, as Austin Dubsky tossed a complete-game victory.

Garden scored all three runs in the first inning off Dubsky, with Mason Brown hitting a two-run double and Brooks Benson adding an RBI single for the Busters.

Trailing 3-1 in the fourth, Butler scored six runs on six hits to jump ahead 7-2. Alex Weiss and Bryant Klusener opened the inning with back-to-back singles, then Weiss scored on an RBI groundout. Klusener then crossed home on Luke Reynolds' single to left. Reynolds would advance to third on the play, as his hit rolled past left fielder Patrick Mixon. Channing Williams followed with a single to center to score Reynolds and put Butler up 4-3. Cory Slater provided the big hit in the inning with a two-out double to center to score Jake Huscroft and Ty Redington.

Redington added a solo home run in the sixth off Garden reliever Brendan Peitsmeyer to give the Grizzlies an 8-3 lead.

Butler then ended the game by scoring five runs in the seventh, beginning with an RBI double down the left-field line by Klusener to score Weiss. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Klusener scored on a Channing Williams sacrifice fly. Zach Baker later followed with a two-run double to right-center, then Jake Huscroft ended the game, as he scored when Cory Slater reached first on a fielding error.

Redington, Weiss and Klusener each had two hits in the contest. Redington led Butler with three runs scored, while Huscroft, Weiss, Klusener and Reynolds scored two runs each.

Game 3 – Butler 13, Garden City 8

The Grizzlies trailed 5-1 after 2 ½ innings, but rallied back with five runs in the third inning. Alex Weiss hit a three-run home run to right field to pull Butler within one, then Cameron Knight followed wtwo batters later with a two-out solo homer to right to tie the game. After a pitching change, Luke Reynolds singled to left-center, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Channing Williams to give Butler the lead.

Garden tied the game back up at 6-6 with a run in the fourth, but Butler quickly answered in the bottom-half with an RBI double by Cory Slater to score Jake Huscroft.

The Grizzlies then scored four runs in the fifth, as Huscroft hit a two-run single and Alex Weiss drove in two more runs with a two-out double to right-center.

Redington added a two-run home run to right-center in the sixth inning to put Butler up 13-6 and cap the Grizzlies' scoring for the contest.

Butler had 15 hits in the contest, as Slater went 3-for-4, while Weiss drove in a game-high five RBI and went 2-for-3. Redington, Huscroft, Reynolds and Williams also had two hits each.

Austin Weiser picked up the win, throwing 4 1/3 innings of relief. Weiser allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out four hitters.

Game 4 – Garden City 3, Butler 1

The Grizzlies failed to complete the sweep, but avoided the shutout as Alex Weiss hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Garden took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jake Tyrakoski scored from third on a throwing error by Zach Baker. The Busters added two insurance runs in the ninth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Cooper Bowermaster scored on a fielder's choice, then Angelo Perez came home from third on a wild pitch.

Weiss led off Butler's ninth inning with the solo home run, but Garden reliever Marcus McKinney would record all three outs by strikeout to close out the game.
