Baseball Splits at Colby, Secures 3rd Consecutive KJCCC Series Win

COLBY, Kan. – Butler baseball came away with a doubleheader split with the Colby Trojans at Young Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the split, Butler (22-15, 12-4 KJCCC) won the series 3-1 after sweeping the Trojans (6-31, 4-16) at McDonald Stadium on Thursday. It is Butler's third consecutive conference series win.

The Grizzlies return to the field on Tuesday as they travel to Chanute for a midweek contest with the Neosho Panthers, first pitch at 1 p.m.

Game 1: Colby 6, Butler 3

In a game that saw a lengthy rain delay with the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the third, Colby ultimately came out on top outscoring Butler 5-2 in the final four frames.

Cole Murrell drove in two runs with three hits to lead the way for the Grizzlies while Charlie Marcantel had a hit and RBI.

Butler starting pitcher Bradyn McClure (L, 3-4) suffered the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking three in 5.0 innings. Kaden Spray threw the sixth and struck out two.

Game 2: Butler 15, Colby 7

The Grizzly bats came alive in game two, pounding out 20 hits to win 15-7 and grab the series win.

Six Grizzlies finished with multi-hit games led by Cole Murrell's four hits and three RBI. Anibal Rivera drove in a team-high four runs on three hits while Justin Hudson had three hits and two RBI.

Butler led 3-0 heading to Colby's bottom half of the second but the Trojans brought five runs home in the inning to lead 5-2. The Grizzlies then held them scoreless until the ninth inning to pull out the win, scoring in every inning but the eighth.

Dayton Pelfrey 9W, 4-0) picked up the win throwing 4.1 scoreless innings in relief allowing just three hits. Jeremy Bingesser kept the scoreless streak going as he threw the next 2.0 innings without allowing a run or hit, striking out three.
