Mpama Breaks School Record, Several Grizzlies Shine at Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. – Butler women's track and field sprinter Star Mpama broke a school record in the 800m and a host of other Grizzlies impressed against high level competition at the Tyson Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas on Friday and Saturday.

Women's Results

Mpama broke the women's 800m indoor school record, running 2:16.53 and placing 26th at the meet. The time is the 16th best in the NJCAA this season.

Keniya Dexter ran 2:20.60 in the 800m to qualify for the NJCAA Indoor Nationals.

Ala'Jah Brooks posted a season-best in the 400m (58.43). Trishanie Warner also posted a season-best in the 400m (56.74).

The women's 4x400m relay (Dexter, Mpama, Brooks, Warner) outdid their previous season-best from the Washburn Open, running 3:51.43 for the fifth best time in the NJCAA this season.

Khloi Bird ran 10:52.69 in the 3k.

Men's Results

Jonathan Farinha impressed in the 200m dash, placing 10th out of 48 runners with a time of 21.21. The time is the ninth best in the NJCAA this season.

Andre Morrison ran a 6.77 60m, placing 10th out of 15 ahead of five Division 1 runners.

Devian King qualified for the NJCAA Indoor National Meet in the 200m (21.62).

Abdelhakim Boukhiar placed 25th in the 800m out of 36 runners, good for the 13th best time in the NJCAA this season.

Nasia Lee ran 8.13 in the 60m hurdles qualifying round to finish 14th out of 27. It is the 13th best time in the NJCAA this season.

The men's 4x400m relay comprised of King, Michael Thomas, Bennett Feldenkirchen and Farinha placed 13th out of 18 (3:12.62)

Butler is set to compete in the Region VI Indoor Championships on Feb. 17th and 18th (Saturday and Sunday) hosted by Pittsburg State.
