Butler softball players sign in early signing period

Four Butler players took the opportunity to sign national letters of intent in the NCAA Division 1 early signing period. Pitcher Maggie Ham signed with the University of Oklahoma, outfielder/pitcher Kelsey Berlin signed with the University of Arkansas, and pitcher Mac Millspaugh and catcher Alex Millspaugh both signed with Creighton University.

Ham is a  tranfer from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette where she made two appearances in the circle. In those two appearances she had a 4.20 era.

Both Millspaugh's and Berlin were a part of the Grizzly team that made the 2012 NJCAA Softball Division I Championship Tournament.

Mac Millspaugh appeared in 40 games from inside the circle and had a 1.90 era with a record of 19-10. Her sister Alex Millspaugh hit .289 with four homeruns and was second on the team in fielding percentage.

Berlin was one of only three Grizzlies to start all 57 games last year. She batted .357 and had five homeruns with 47 runs batted in.

Even though the early signing period has now passed, Butler head softball coach Doug Chance expects as many as six more players to commit to Division 1 or Division 2 Universities before spring.

"We encourage our players to get it done early so they can focus on the season," said Chance. "We have dozens of Division 1 schools still calling us about our unsigned players and until they commit, there is a lot of pressure on them to perform."
