Softball Stays Hot With 2 Wins at Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. – No. 11-ranked Butler softball traveled to Dodge City and came away with two wins over the Conquistadors at Legends Park, 13-3 and 11-0.

Butler (38-6, 26-2 KJCCC) has now won 18 consecutive games while Dodge (9-27, 9-17) has dropped four straight. The Grizzlies finish the regular season 4-0 vs. the Conqs after taking two at East Park on March 13th.

Butler is back in action on Saturday as they travel to Iowa for a doubleheader with Indian Hills, first pitch at 1 p.m.

Game 1: Butler 13, Dodge City 3 (5 inn.)

An eight run second inning for Butler helped them cruise to a 13-3 run rule win in game one.

Kyrsten Moran, Aly Hageman, Madison Montgomery and JaKeyla McDaniel all turned in two hit performances while Kory Schoenfeld led Butler with two runs driven in.

Cheyenne Handsaker (W, 16-2) started and tossed 3.0 innings picking up the win as she held Dodge scoreless and hitless. Lena Walter threw the final 2.0 innings allowing four runs on four hits.

Butler swiped six bags in the game. Moran led the way with two of her own.

Hageman hit her team-leading 10th home run of the season in the fourth inning.

Dodge City scored three runs across the fourth and fifth innings to get on the board. Camryn Lenz led them with two RBI.

Game 2: Butler 11, Dodge City 0 (5 inn.)

Game two saw Butler shut out the Conqs, holding them to two hits. Chloe Odle (W, 12-4) and Alyssa Mude combined for the shutout with Odle throwing the first 3.0 innings allowing no hits while Mude threw the final 2.0 allowing two hits and striking out one.

Butler plated four runs in the first, two in the second and four in the third, jumping out to a 10-0 lead after three innings.

Kyrsten Moran and Kim Yepez led the Grizzlies offensively as Moran racked up two hits and scored two runs while Yepez was 2-3 with three RBI.

Moran stole two bases for the second straight game.

Dodge City starting pitcher Josie Oakley (L, 5-10) took the loss as she allowed 10 runs (seven earned) on nine hits in 2.1 innings.
